Carol Channing, Legendary Broadway star, Dead at 97

Carol Channing, Legendary Broadway star, died at age 97 on Tuesday, January 15, at her home in Rancho Mirage, CA, her publicist confirmed.

“CAROL CHANNING – You had us at ‘HELLO, DOLLY!’ It is with extreme heartache, that I have to announce the passing of an original Industry Pioneer, Legend and Icon – Miss Carol Channing.” Channing’s publicist Harlan Boll said in a statement. “I admired her before I met her, and have loved her since the day she stepped into my life.”

With her raspy voice and huge smile, Channing had significant Hollywood success, earning a supporting actress Golden Globe for the 1967 film Thoroughly Modern Millie.
